Why Spray Instead of Brush
On flat walls a brush and roller are perfectly good. On doors and window frames they’re not, and the reason is visible from across the room.
Doors and frames are the surfaces people stand closest to and touch every day. Brush marks show. Roller texture shows. Panel details and glazing beads collect uneven build-up where a brush can’t get in cleanly.
Spraying lays down a thin, even film with no marks in it, gets into panel mouldings and frame profiles properly, and cures to a harder surface because the film is consistent. On gloss and semi-gloss finishes, which is what most doors want, the difference is obvious.
It’s the same principle behind why a car isn’t painted with a brush.
Door Spray Painting
Front and Entry Doors
The front door does more for street appeal per dollar than anything else on the house. A dated timber door in a washed-out stain, or a front door in a colour that dated ten years ago, drags down an otherwise smart frontage.
We strip back or sand to a sound surface, fill and repair where needed, prime to suit the material, then build up thin even coats to a finish that looks factory-applied. Timber, steel, fibreglass and composite doors all work.
Internal Doors
Where internal doors are the last thing left from an old colour scheme, respraying the lot brings the house together. Hollow-core, solid timber and panelled doors all take spray well, and the panel mouldings come out clean rather than loaded up with brush marks.
Doing every internal door at once is far more economical than doing them piecemeal, since the set-up and masking happens once.
Security Doors and Screens
Security doors take direct sun and salt air and they fade, chalk and eventually rust. Powder coating on older screens oxidises to a dull, chalky surface that no amount of cleaning brings back.
We treat any rust, apply an inhibitive metal primer, and finish in a coating built for exterior metal. Common request is going from an old white or mission brown to a modern charcoal or black, which updates a frontage significantly.
Garage Doors
A garage door is often the largest single surface on the front of the house. Panel-lift and roller doors in a faded colour undo whatever else you’ve done to the frontage. Respraying is dramatically cheaper than replacing.
Window Frame Spray Painting
Timber Frames
Perth sun and coastal air are hard on timber frames. They fade, the paint cracks along the joints, and once water gets into the end grain the timber itself starts going.
Preparation is the job here. Old flaking paint back to a sound edge, cracks and holes filled, joints caulked, bare timber sealed with a primer that suits it. Then the finish coats.
Aluminium Frames
Aluminium is everywhere in Perth housing and it’s the material most people assume can’t be repainted. It can, but it needs the right preparation. The oxide layer has to be dealt with and it needs an etch or bonding primer, otherwise the coating peels off in sheets within a year.
Colour changes on aluminium frames are one of the highest-impact things you can do to a 1990s or 2000s home.
Steel Frames
Older steel windows, common in character homes through Floreat, Wembley and Mount Hawthorn, need rust treatment and an inhibitive primer before anything else. Done properly they last decades more. Done badly the rust keeps working underneath.

Timber shutters, metal awnings and decorative window trim spray well because the gun reaches into the detail without filling it in.

How the Work Is Done
- Assessment
We look at the condition of what you’ve got and tell you honestly whether respraying is the right call. Occasionally it isn’t. A door with a delaminating veneer or a frame with serious rot is better replaced, and we’d rather say so than take the job and have you disappointed.
- Hardware Removal and Masking
Handles, locks, hinges, glazing beads and weather seals come off or get masked properly. Glass, brickwork and surrounding surfaces get fully protected. Overspray on a window pane or a paver is the mark of a rushed job.
- Preparation
Degrease and clean, sand back to a sound surface, fill and repair, then prime with the correct product for the material. Metal gets rust treatment first. Aluminium gets an etch or bonding primer.
- Spraying
Multiple thin coats rather than one heavy one, with each allowed to cure before the next. Thin coats are what prevent runs, sags and orange peel, and what gives you a hard even film at the end.
- Reassembly and Check
Hardware goes back on, everything gets tested for smooth operation, and we walk it with you before we call it done. Site cleaned up and masking removed.
Colours and Finishes
Any Dulux colour, plus custom matching where you need to tie in with existing paintwork, powder coating or a colour scheme you’re already committed to.
Popular at the moment: charcoal and near-black on security screens and window frames, deep greens and blues on front doors, and Monument or similar on garage doors to match Colorbond roofing.
Finishes:
Gloss: hardest wearing and easiest to clean. Standard choice for front doors.
Semi-gloss: slightly softer look with much the same durability. Suits window frames and internal doors.
Satin: low sheen, more contemporary, still washable.
Respray or Replace
Replacing the windows across an average Perth home runs into five figures. Replacing a solid entry door with hardware is well into the thousands. A security screen replacement is several hundred each.
Respraying comes in at a fraction of that in every case, and where the frames and doors are structurally sound the visual result is much the same.
Where replacement is the better answer is when the hardware has failed, the timber has rotted through, or the glazing itself is the problem. We’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
Doing It With Your Repaint
Spray work is most economical bundled with other painting. The set-up, masking and travel happen once rather than three times.
Common combinations: window frames and security screens done alongside an exterior repaint, or every internal door in the house done while the interior is being painted. Both cost noticeably less than booking them as standalone visits later.

Looking After It
Wash frames and doors down a couple of times a year with mild soapy water, particularly if you’re near the coast where salt builds up.
Give them a look over once a year, checking the bottom edge of doors and the sill end of window frames, which is where water sits and where problems start.
