A job that stops at the walls and leaves yellowed ceilings and scuffed skirtings looks half done, and you notice it every time you walk through the room.

Room by Room

Living Areas and Bedrooms

The bulk of most interior jobs. Large wall areas, plenty of cutting in around cornices and skirtings, and usually the rooms where the colour decision matters most because you spend the most time in them.

We move what we can, cover what we can’t, and take hardware off rather than trying to mask around it. Door handles, switch plates and vent covers come off, get painted around properly, and go back on. It takes longer and it’s the difference between a professional finish and a DIY one.

Most bedrooms and living areas get finished while the house is empty during the day, and you come home to a usable room. 

Ceilings

Ceilings get skipped constantly, usually because they look fine until the walls go white and suddenly they don’t. Perth ceilings yellow from age, cooking, heating and sunlight, and a room with new walls under a tired ceiling never quite looks finished.

Ceiling work needs the right product and the right technique. Flat ceiling paint hides imperfections that a sheen finish would highlight, and rolling technique matters because ceiling lighting shows up every lap mark. We’d rather do the ceiling at the same time as the walls than come back for it later, because the masking and set-up work only gets done once.

Kitchens

Kitchen walls and ceilings take grease, steam and heat, so they need a washable finish that can be wiped down without the sheen going patchy. Preparation matters more here too, because paint will not stick to a wall with a decade of cooking residue on it. Everything gets degreased before sanding.

We work carefully around benchtops, splashbacks, appliances and cabinetry, masking properly rather than rushing it.

Kitchen and Laundry Cabinetry

Where the doors and carcasses are structurally sound but dated, repainting cabinetry is a fraction of the cost of replacing a kitchen and the result surprises most people.

It’s a preparation-heavy job. Melamine and laminate need degreasing, sanding and a bonding primer before anything else happens, and skipping any of that is why DIY cabinet paint jobs chip within months. Doors usually come off and get sprayed for a smooth even finish, then get rehung.

Worth being straight about: this works well on sound cabinetry. If the carcasses are swollen or the hinges are failing, painting won’t fix it and we’ll tell you so.

Bathrooms and Laundries

Wet areas need mould-resistant coatings, full stop. A standard interior paint on a bathroom ceiling will show mould spotting within a couple of years in a poorly ventilated room, no matter how well it went on.

We use products built for moisture, treat any existing mould properly before painting rather than covering it, and pay attention to the ceiling above the shower, which is where the problem always starts.

Doors, Skirtings and Architraves

Trim work is slow, fiddly and the thing people notice most. Chipped skirtings and door frames make a whole house look tired even when the walls are perfect.

Doors can be brushed in place or taken off and sprayed depending on the finish you’re after and what your budget allows. Spraying gives a smoother result with no brush marks, which shows on gloss and semi-gloss finishes.

Feature Walls and Decorative Finishes

Accent walls, deeper colours and texture finishes for rooms that need a point of interest. Useful if you want one space to do something different without repainting the whole house in it.
